One thing is certain about the people of Perugia – They like their music.  Every year the city hosts the Umbria Jazz Festival, which is widely acknowledged to be the largest and most important Jazz festival in Europe.  Right from its inauguration in 1973, the Umbria Jazz Festival attracted an impressive string of stars to Perugia from across the globe, including Dizzy Gillespie, Sam Rivers, Herbie Hanckok, Enrico Rava, and even Miles Davis.  More recent years have seen artists such as Dedee Bridgewater, Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Terence Blanchard, Paolo Conte, and Burt Bacharach make appearances, thus cementing the Umbria Jazz Festival’s reputation as one of the world’s best.

So it is that for 10 days every July, the city of Perugia becomes a mecca for all music lovers, when from morning to night, in the historic centre of Perugia, hosts dozens of concerts and events and sees the whole city buzz with even more vibrancy and energy than usual.
